We’ve all been there, you open your closet and you have nothing to wear. Now this doesn’t mean you have no clothes, just no inspiration. On these days I find it is easiest to go back to basics. When I feel like this I just throw on some basics, jeans and a tank. Starting with a good base when I lack motivation to put together an outfit makes the process so much easier.
A base outfit such as this is perfectly fine to wear on its own, but we can also elevate it with only a few tweaks. Here are some ways we can take this look and “dress” it up just a bit:
Running Errands
A linen button down is a great way to elevate your base for warmer weathe. Paired with chunky sandals, and simple sunglasses we can create an effortless but still classic look. For cooler days you can simply switch the linen shirt for a oversized cardigan and still look effortless and chic.
For the Office
If you work in a more casual office, starting with a basic outfit is a great jumping off point. One of my favourite business casual looks is simple: a blazer and jeans. When pairing jeans with a blazer, I actually prefer a tank or tee as a layering piece instead of a blouse, it feels less stuffy and “corporate”. Add a simple wide strap sandal, and you have a great look for the office.
For a Night Out
To dress this look up for a night out, I just grabbed a black bomber jacket, a fun boot, and added a dark lip. Because the base outfit is so simple, it is so easy to pull out the “fun” pieces to pair, such as the boots I chose, but you can also choose a funky jacket to go with as well.
