Transitional seasons are usually a little difficult to dress for, from the varying weather throughout the day to the desire to start rocking the spring trends, it can be hard to reach the proper balance.
Here are some of my tips for creating the perfect transitional look.
Layer
Another really great way to create a transitional look is layers. Now layering can be a little bit tricky, as if there isn’t a proper balance of the textures and shapes the look can easily come off as being a bit “frumpy”. When I create layered looks, I like to start with the lightest layers on the bottom and work my way up to the heaviest. In this look, I started with just a basic white collared shirt, then layered a lighter weight grey sweater, and finished is with a longline sherpa lined denim jacket. As before, I balanced out the lightness of the top with a black bootcut denim pant and black slip-on sneakers.
Tone
One of the best ways to create a transitional look is to go for cooler toned colours. For this look, I paired a light denim with a navy sweater, and grey slip-on sneakers. When using darker and lighter shades in the same look, balance is important. Because the jacket is longer in length, I tucked the sweater to create a more cohesive balance between the dark and the light, which also helps to create the appearance of longer legs by shortening the torso just a touch.
Texture
Finally, when dressing for the winter to spring transition, I really like to mix and match traditionally winter textures with more common spring textures. In this look, I layered together a super light and flowy denim chambray button down shirt with a heavy cable knit sweater. This not only keeps you from getting to warm later in the day by having too many thick layers, but also allows for a different look if you need to pull the sweater off in the warmer afternoon, creating a cute denim on denim looks.
